Unless you can dig one of those fellas up not sure what we got out there. If it's acoustic back porch country blues may I suggest a guy named Scott Ainslie at http://cattailmusic.com/ He is a blues historian that travels and teaches workshops about the blues roots. Seen him doing a show covering Robert Johnson ( AKA father of the most covered blues songs ever written) one time playing acoustic slide guitar. Mabey that would help satisfy your blues craving? I am 46 and love those guys also but, there is a wide range of people of people that attend the Bean that all have different taste and I think John has done a great job at entertaining everyone of all ages.

Carolina where bluegrass is a way of life but I am here to tell ya...............the banjo came from Africa."

Don

I figure some one 55 was born in 1954 which meant by the time they were 6 and old enough to listen to grown up music.. it was 1964... arguably the last year anyone played any real blues. on the radio anyway... before the British bands recycled it , and worse, the Americans, instead of basing their music upon its own rich heritage,, spun off new versions based upon the Brits interpretations of blues..

what the heck are American players with their own roots of blues all around them doing learning the genre from the Brits... why did they not go to the source, Elmore James, Robert Johnson.. Muddy, Elmore..
I mean Mayall and Clapton etc ARE excellent players,, and I actually like their music very much.. but it ain't real blues. it is commercial blues.. recycled.. and the modern bands today are in about the 3rd generation from there..and it gets diluted in substance and adulterated with fancey flashy crap more and more each time around.. to where I hear some excellent playing from todays "Blues Bands" but I hear precious little that could be called blues.. TUF was a superb band.... but a far cry from blues... playing blues songs does not a blues band make

If I want to hear 12 bar rock n roll , I will listen to Rock a Billy...

OK, I am in a bad mood, just came back from doing traffic at yet another motorcycle fatality.. and maybe I am overstating my case.. but honestly... that is how I feel.. I like all sorts of music, Rod Stewart and Abba, and Fleetwood Mac, Prince, james brown , are some of my favorites,, also The Hellecasters.. satchmo.... you name it...
But Blues is Blues and what I call Blues is the real stuff..the old stuff,, the stuff done by people who did not have tour busses,, or monster PAs.. "sound Men" or prima donna attitudes.....or play to crowds of 1000s who pay $25 or $100 for a seat... or strike heroic poses for the camera... as if playing the guitar was some sort of Star Wars Battle... come on, it is plucking a string,, with your little fingers.... what is all the posing and grimacing about ?

Wanna be a hero ?....go to Afghanistan... and clear caves of terrorists until you find Osama Bin Laden..you can assume all sorts of aggressive postures,, but it will be for a Reason.. it will have a Reason...

Do that and come home,, with or without arms or legs , in or out of a box.. and you are a hero in my eyes......
get on the cover of Guitar Player or Rolling Stone, or Teen Fave magazine with a guitar and the words Guitar Hero.. and watch me barf .

INSIPID ... INSIPID POSEURS

the term "guitar HERO " sickens me...

America.. get real...
He's a fantastic harp and guitar player, and songwriter. He also teaches and could do the advanced seminar. At the Birmingham harmonica festival a few years ago he was hired as a performer, but they also had him walk around the hotel with his guitar and harps. His job was to get folk playing. He walked around starting hallway jams, getting people playing, giving spontaneous guitar and harp lessons, etc... He would add a lot to the Bean. Really.
